I'll just do a quick recap of my last couple days for those still keen on reading this, and then when I see you I will have nothing to talk about, and instead you can inform me of your life.
I spent the last leg of the trip with the group on Ometepe Island. It is in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, which if you take the ferry lengthwise it is a 14 hour trip. Our ferry was 2 hours luckily. I have learned the lesson to always ask where the boat is going before you get on it. It didn't really affect us too much since we were on an island, but I guess for future reference. We just got to take a sweet truck ride to our hostel.
See look how much fun Paige is having.
We did some hikes, a waterfall one and one up Volcano Mederas. The volcano was a cool hike because the top of it you kind of climb up through all these tree roots which happens to be a specialty of mine. From Maderas you can look across to the other volcano on the island Conception.
April is the driest month for nicaragua, which makes it very dusty. Our feet are actually the same colour as our legs...we are just wearing dirt pants.
I have no segway for this, but this is just a good photo.
Our bus ride back was quite long but someone started to play guitar, very lovely. Overall I am sad to report I haven't had a really terrible (but generally hilarious) chicken bus experiences. I believe someone spilt a milky substance on my shirt, which could be breast milk, but I am hoping its formula, not enough to ruin my day.
Our last journey with Paige and Luke was on the ferry.
I loved this ferry ride. They played 80's spanish music videos - soft rock ballads only. I highly recommend them, they have a huge entertainment factor. Nothing beats mullets, mustaches, bare chested men with blazers all wrapped into one fantastic 3 minute video, multiplied by 20 videos. Simply the best.
Once we hit the mainland we hopped on another bus ride to Managua (what a hole), where the bag man made us pay him to get our bags thrown at us off the bus because otherwise he just wasn't going to give them back. What a weenie.
All and all, not a bad little trip.
I have already enjoyed being home, mostly because of this:
This is Cory's homemade shirt folder.
These are Cory's folded shirts. I didn't know laundry could be so much fun.
Thanks for caring enough to read the blog!
Until next time....
Cheryl, your blog posts have been pretty entertaining. They've pumped me up for a summer of bitter fun. Well done.
