In case some of you are unaware, Camp Chief Hector is a camp I worked at about 4 years ago for spring, upon recommendation from Kate Jeffery. It is where I met Diana, Calder and Amanda, all of whom were friends/co-workers with Kate from a previous camp I had attended as a a young hooligan.
Calder was able to to find us jobs for the Family Camp Weekend, since they were shorts staffed. It was awesome! And nice to have a fire in a tipi again. Also it was a good chance to hang out with Amanda before we parted ways for potentially the next year...longer...I don't know!
Yes, she always looks like this.
The best day I had though was Sunday morning, when Dee and I get paired together for the program ADVENTURE SEEKERS...and seek adventures we did! Its amazing how easily it is to distract 4 year olds. I don't think we played one formal game.
Instead we led them on a kita hunt - mythical creatures (it makes more sense when you do it at a camp called Wanakita) that hide places and leaves jewels around and live in small huts, and like to eat oranges and bananas (you work with what you have, or what you can grab on your way out of the dining hall...). An hour and half later we find a "giant teeter totter", and a large spool, and endless fun is had.
At one point a little girl is standing in the puddle asking Diana what she is holding and I hear Diana say "I don't know, try crushing it."
Dee and I take a step back look at the 3 children we are seeking adventures with and what do we see? We see 3 kids going crazying in a large puddle throwing rocks.
Pause. Laughter. We know, that if either of us ever has children that the question:
"What is this?"
Will be followed by the response:
"I don't know try crushing it."
