Albertaaaaa

I have a definite soft spot for Canmore, Alberta and I loveeee it here. When I am here all I want to do is run and hike and paddle. If someone here is overweight...they are visiting.

We pulled into Canmore, set up tents and immediately got a Bow Valley Beer poverty pack and headed for the river - for old times sake.

Somethings never change.

We then headed to the legion for some cheap beers. It is too bad that Calder is a camp celebrity as he was unable to participate in the shinanigans of Fun Cheryl (an alter ego that Alice discovered when there is a beer or two or three...in me) and an Energetic Diana (a rare occurance otherwise). The legion was filled with Camp Cheif Hector camp staff, and it was insane to realize, I know some of these people from four years previous! But....a few headstands later Dee and I were off and running to The Drake where dancing commences and once we run out of steam we head back to our tents.

The end of the long weekend meant that Amanda had to start work at Hector and Calder went with her to do odd jobs, so Dee and I are left to our own devices.

The first night we think "Lets camp in the woods - its free!" Good Idea?

At midnight we hear Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! Walking in the woods, scaring of wildlife? Ya, sure that makes sense. Then we see a light it fades away and we hear some whooping in the distance. We also hear wood being chopped, but hey whatever. I am comfortable enough I drift off to sleep, only to miss the exciting events of the night.

I woke early to a groggy Diana who says "We should probably leave soon"
I reply "It's 5am, I am not leaving until 6"
"Well ok, but I think our food was stolen...but I'll tell you about that later"
"YOU'LL TELL ME WHAT LATER?!"

Turns out our whooping friend came back! Spent the night circling our tent and hung around basically until the sun came up. No worries though, he didn't take our food and our stove - he's just creepy.

That got me moving pretty frickin' fast and back into town where we cooked oatmeal in the park.

We also loitered on our favourite bench of the Canmore Hotel.

The sign beside the window indicates that the bench is reserved for seniors....no senior with early morning drink habits is in sight, so we think its ok.

The next night we opted for a campsite off a trail that Dee and I had hiked previously. However, we also wanted to go to the Casino, so set up camp and hiked back out to meet Calder so he could drive us there. I won 10 bucks, so it was worth it. However, it seems a little strange to be hiking in and out of a campsite to go play at a Casino. I did learn how to play Roulette properly, and if I wasn't so cheap, I can see why people get into gambling.

Since Dee and I were on a gambling streak, we headed into Banff for Thursday Night Bingo at the Legion. No winnings there, but we got a nice surprise from Mother Nature.

May 27th, Are you kidding me?

Well I am not.

We headed back to Exshaw for a work weekend and also to get out of the snow.
