Hitchin'...

Upon leaving Ontario, I think the last words my mother said to me were "please don't thumb rides"

I apologize, but at least I didn't lie. Call it even?

Diana and I, upon parting from A. Winegardner and her jousting car, seem to like to move around and hitching seems to be most cost effective way. Especially if you can get over the slight embarrassment of standing on the highway while people judge you. I think I can. Plus we have managed to meet some pretty interesting folks so I though I would share a few of our rides.

1) RCMP - We asked for directions and they gave us a ride. There is no room in the back seat of those cars.

2) A 70 year old woman from Maryland. It's pretty impressive she makes the drive to Canmore from Maryland every summer. Even more so, for her 70th birthday celebration she is hiking rim to rim in the grand canyon. What?!

3) Two woman from Ottawa. Hilarious ladies. Picked us up when it was snowing and constantly commented on the stupidity of motorcycle enthusiasts who continue to ride their bikes in the snow. They also gave us 10 bucks...because I guess we look poor.

4) Marathon Men.  Two mid 40 year olds dropped us off at camp, even took the time to drive in through the camp road. Both running the marathon in Calgary on May 29th. One of them still resides in London Ontario and he said he better call his son Nick, because he met two young women with adventurous spirits. Oh Gee Thanks.

5) Judith. Drove us to Haines Junction and apparently has had a pretty rough life. She does get medicinal marijuana. She proved it with her pot card. She also had a cute dog bandit.

6) Jason. Told us a story about catching a young moose calf to pet. Then showed us the video.

7) Musician. A lady picked us up that is the stereotypical northerner. Loves her machines and loves to hunt. Is laughing constantly and is in a band called Sunny Side of the Ditch, which we intend to look out for.

8) Leaf Fan Doug - No matter where you roam from home, there is sure to be a leaf fan

9) Kathy - Drove us back to Whitehorse and is originally from Burlington, Ontario. Had some pretty wicked stories about her past year in the Yukon and got Dee and I pretty excited for our summer plans.

10) Then sometimes you don't get picked up.

We eventually made it down the hill.
