Kluane National Park!

Diana and I are not hikers.

Especially together. The last two overnight hikes I did with her did not go remotely according to plan.

Anyways, we get to Kluane and decide we don't have enough time nor the means to get to the hikes we have time to do, so we decide we will hike into the first campsite on the cottonwood trail camp and hike back out. 12km in, so a pretty short hike, even with elevation changes and potential creek crossings. The terrain is pretty variable.

Anyways we stumble our way along with a few slips. Generally, we are miserable. Mostly due to the weather and our constant cluminess.

The views are awesome though, and we keep laughing until we make to the first creek crossing, Goat Creek. and we think. F. That.

For a few reasons. One, Its later in the afternoon, so the water levels are higher, in addition to them already being very high. Two, the creek water is glacier run off, and there for its frickin' freezing. Three, We'd have to make the exact same crossing the next morning to head back to Kathleen Lake Campgound....sooo all things considered not worth it.

Although it is not ideal to camp beside a creek in bear country, we think "meh" and have a snack, sit around and set up the tent.

We crawl inside the tent and while Dee naps I do some writings, and I think, of course the sun comes out now. When dee wakes up we start to contemplate dinner, but as we discuss it, I finall find our Parks Canada info sheet regarding the cottonwood trail. PERFECT! I have been wondering its whereabouts all day.

I begin reading.

Then I begin reading outloud. "Goat creek campsite has been permantly closed due to high activity of bears".

Diana: How do feel about that?
Cheryl: Not great.

And so we are fortunate enough that it is sunny now and the sun doesn't go down really at all. We quickly grab a wrap and haul ass back to the camp ground.

Our leisurelly 11km hike became a 22km hike ending at 10pm. With enough light to set up camp again and have a snack.

Like I said, Dee and I are not great hikers.

Kathleen Lake is pretty nice too though!
