Hello Central America

Hellooooooo,
We successfully managed our flight from cold Quito, to blistering hot Panama City. I don´t think I´ll sleep much here because I am writing this at 6:30am. It boggles my mind that people own pants here, let alone jeans. The only pants I can foresee me wearing here are the ones that I ripped the butt out of, and that is only because the new added feature has made the pants quite breezy.

We are staying in a busy hostel, but headed out of the city later this afternoon to make our way to Costa Rica and hopefully set up the tent Nellie has been carting around for 3 weeks. The city is clearly suffering from an identity crisis, some restored buildings, others that are just crumbling, mixed in with some modern high rises.

With one day in Panama City, we checked out the canal. Its pretty crazy, it takes 8 hours to make the 80 km trip. Someone swam it...of course, they paid 36 cents for the trip. Today some of the large ships can pay up to 240,000 US dollars for a trip through the canal. Insanity, I´d just turn around.

The view from the hostel at night was quite nice,  I thought I´d add that in as well. Sometimes, I think I am a brilliant photographer, we can agree to disagree if you choose.

The buses here are indeed the chicken buses, and it makes me miss the Ecuadorian ones. Lets see how long I last on a crowded school bus in the heat. Barf bag?

Adios!
