Volcan Baru

I woke up at 5:00am today to do a hike up a volcano.  It is my humble opinion that signs like this should not be allowed.

Indicating that you have walked 4.5km up (way to go!), too bad you have another 9km up hill left. Gasp. If you are going start a countdown, be considerate and do it past halfway.

While I was hiking I was reminded of a conversation I had with a co-worker. I had mentioned one day I was doing a hiking trip one weekend, and he simply asked: "What do you do on a hiking trip?" I explain the particulars...mostly walking places while carrying all your stuff. His face was blank after I described it and he said "That doesn't sound like fun at all." Welllllll....I also hike to see the views, of course! Like this one...

Apparently, from this point you can see both oceans on a clear day. I don`t know what kind of joke Mother Nature is playing with me, but so far this is the view I have seen all over Ecuador, and now Panama.

Anyways, 27 km later we arrive at the ranger station to get a cab back into town, but its Friday, and who doesn`t like to skip out early on work to get a head start to the weekend? Thanks Ranger Joe, and we continued with our walk.

We arrive back, I am tired, hungry, sunburned with some blistering feet. Worth it? Always.....

What did you do today?

  1. Well I woke up in Haliburton, went for a 45 minute walk along the road (VERY tiring), drank a lot of coffee, and then drove a monstrous truck for 3 hours back to North Bay. I've been sitting around eating and procrastinating for awhile now. I'd appreciate some sympathy Cheryl...I've had a long day.

  2. ive had a long day too, it's 10:28 am,
i woke up at 6:50, got out of bed at 7, made coffee and oatmeal for diana, (the quick kind she doesn't like as much)
then i went to class for two painful hours, i listened for about 9 minutes.
and now i'm in the library about to work on a portfolio that should summarize all my qualities as a human being and teacher...
it's going to be about 30 pages.
Diana had the same project, but her prof only wanted 5 pages.

im ready to keel over and never walk into this school again.
